Thiago Monteiro has had a relatively disappointing start to 2023, though nearly all of it has been spent on hard courts in Australia! He only managed to win two matches in Australia, beating Altmaier and Rai (but did struggle in both matches, losing the opening sets). Monteiro’s third win came at the Davis Cup where he was a 1.03 favourite. He then arrived to Cordoba to play on the surface he loves, and lost to an in-form Coria 7-6 1-6 2-6. Monteiro had a relatively successful season in 2022, achieving some respectable wins on hard courts and winning two Challengers against tough opposition (Rodionov, Shevchenko, Lajovic, Bagnis, Gombos and Ofner). However he has looked poor this year so far, and will need to step it up if he wants to make a good run in Argentina.

Cachin comes into this match with a big more hope, Monteiro isn’t in great form and there’s no doubt the Argentinian can beat him here. Cachin had an amazing 2022, where he was able to break into the top 100 winning four Challengers. He was dominant on the clay courts, with a record of 47-13. The most notable opponents he beat was Etcheverry, Cecchinato, Gasquet, Carballes Baena, Andujar, Thiem and Verdasco.
