John Isner is back playing again, and back on his favorite surface. Fast grass courts. He would love to replicate his 2018 run, where he reached the semi finals beating the likes of Tsitsipas and Raonic. But now he’s 38, and the fans can clearly see his tennis being affected. Only once has Isner actually won the opening round of a match this year, and that was in Dallas when he went on a great run to reach the finals. Apart from Dallas, one of his favorite tournaments, he’s lost seven opening round matches. And he was a favourite in five of those. He’ll need to dig deep if he’s to avoid another opening round defeat.
Juame Munar
Juame Munar hasn’t had much success on the grass, in fact, he’s only won one match on this surface. And that was last year at Wimbledon when he beat Monteiro in straight sets. The Spaniard is the definition of a clay court lover, with 75% of his matches coming on the clay. He’s struggled this year on anything that hasn’t been on clay, going 0-5 on hard courts. But Munar will fancy himself here, I still think he has the game to play on grass. He has a nice serve for the surface, and will make it difficult for Isner.
