The Dutchman had an amazing Challenger year in 2021 wining eight titles. His game seems to go well on all surfaces, with Griekspoor winning the titles on clay, outdoor hards and indoor hards. We can’t discount his impressive showing on the grass either, taking FAA to two tiebreak’s, and beating Molcan and Fognini. He managed to win a clay Challenger after Wimbledon, but then really struggled on the tour after that. Losing to the likes of O’Connell, Pospisil, Bublik, Karatsev and Giron. In fact, he went on a six game losing streak towards the end of the year. However Griekspoor looks to be better, and had a strong couple of matches beating both Munar and Cecchinato in straight sets. Griekspoor had a bit of fortune, and Cilic pulled out ahead of the quarter-final, and now faces Karatsev in the semi’s.

Karatsev made an amazing burst into the scene in 2021, winning eight matches in the Australian Open (beating the likes of FAA, Schwartzman and Dimitrov) before losing to Djokovic in the semi finals, then winning a Masters title in Dubai and later on the year winning in another title in Moscow. He started 2022 with a title at Sydney, and then suddenly his form dropped, he hd a woeful 18:31 record losing to the likes of Humbert, Bublik, Etcheverry, Lajovic, Cerundolo, Stricker, Ugo Carabelli and many more. But Aslan has looked good this week, beating Andujar with ease 6-1 6-3 and then beating big hitter Van Rijthoven in straight sets. He then came against Martinez, where Karatsev toyed with him winning 6-1 6-2. It’s his first semi final since Sydney, will he make it the final?
