Stefanos Tsitsipas comes into the US Open without much success, despite being one of the top players in this generation. The furtherst he’s ever got is Round three, back in 2020 and 2021 where he lost to Coric (7+ underdog) and Alcaraz (5+ underdog). While last year he failed to win his opening match against Galan where he was a 13+ underdog! A lot of problems for Tsitsipas, but something he’ll hope to improve in the next two weeks. He won his first title of the year earlier this month in Los Cabos, where he beat Isner, Jarry, Coric and De Minaur to secure that title. He’ll hope to carry on that form today.
Milos Raonic
Milos Raonic, the former number three, came back from a two-year hiatus, and has played three tournaments since. He won his first match on his return, on the grass against the out-of-form Kecmanovic, but lost to Jordan Thompson in the next round. The Canadian managed to get a wild card main draw appearance in Toronto, and surprised many when he beat Frances Tiafoe in the opening round as a big underdog, coming back from a set down. Unfortunately he lost to McDonald later on that tournament 6-3 6-3.

I think Raonic is getting a bit too much love. Tsitsipas really should be winning this match up, especially in a best-of-five match up against a player who hasn’t played professional tennis in two years. Granted Tsitsipas’s return game is probably the worst out of everyone, I still think the spread holds some value here.
