Barrios Vera has had a pretty good season so far, going 41-22 and reaching a career high ranking of 119. He’ll be hoping he can break into the top 100 in the upcoming week, with no points to defend as he didn’t play the US Open last year. He’s won two Challenger titles so far this year, both on the clay. In fact what’s even more impressive about those title wins, was he went on a 10 game winning streak to claim the two titles. On top of that, he’s made two final appearances in other Challengers too. He’s managed to make some inroads on the tour too, with a quarter-final appearance at Cordoba, and an impressive run at Wimbledon, geetting out the qualifying stages and reaching the second round (beating Baez, Wild, Hijikata and Donskoy). He has the game to play on the hard courts, and will give Nava a tough test.
Emilio Nava
Emilio Nava is finally showing signs of good and solid progress. After his impressive run last week at the Stanford Challenger, he’s managed to get a new career high ranking of 155. Unfortunately for Nava though, he didn’t get a wild card to the main draw like last year, and will have to fight his way in the qualifying stages to try and defend his points. Nava managed to get a Challenger title earlier this year, on the clay, and has found good success on the surface. He’ll be happy he’s back on the hard courts, and on home soil though.
