The American has had a pretty rough start to the season, managing to win just one set in the four games she has played. Despite this negative start, Brengle looked to be playing some good tennis towards the end of 2022. She won three ITF’s in a row, dropping just two sets in the 15 matches she played. The opposition were nowhere near tour level, but she did face Yuan, Hibino, Townsend and Volynets. Now she comes into a WTA tour level tournament, hoping to get her first tour-level win in since late last year.

Julia Grabher will make her fourth attempt to win a match at Linz, after failing in 2019, 2020 and 2021. The Austrian hasn’t had a great start to the year, but is playing on the surface she is least comfortable on. She’s a clay courter through and through, with 70% of her matches being played on the clay. Grabher had a great 2022, winning her first WTA 125k title and three other ITF’s. But despite this success, she has struggled playing on hard courts. Apart from a surprise run in Porto, she has one of the worst records on hard courts (for WTA players ranked Top 100). She had one surprise win over Martincova this year, but schooled against Fernandez the round after 6-0 6-1, and lost to Juvan badly 6-2 6-1 a week later.
