Jodie Burrage is having a good season so far, going 19-12 in 2023. She started off the year in strong fashion, reaching the final of the Canberra ITF losing out to fellow Brit Katie Boulter despite winning the first set. She managed to get some silverware, and won the Croissy-Beaubourg ITF title, beating some high level players (Hatouka, Diatchenko, Minnen, Wickmayer and Bronzetti). She didn’t play much during the clay season, but came back during the grass court season. She reached a tour level final for the first time in her career, beating Martincova, Linette, Frech and Cornet before losing to Boulter AGAIN. In Eastbourne last week, she beat Rakhimova and Davis which were two very strong wins. She comes to Wimbledon for the third time hoping she can secure her first win at her home Grand Slam.
Caty McNally
Caty McNally comes into Wimbledon with a fairly dissapointing time on the surface so far, going 2-2. Her only wins were against two fellow Americans, Katie Volynets and Lauren Davis where she was a favourite both times. Her loss to Naef was disappointing. She had a good clay court season for the first time in her career, where she reached the final of the Paris WTA tournament. It was the first time in her career she had more wins than losses in a season since 2017! McNally has never passed the first round of Wimbledon, and will be hoping that will change this week.

I like Burrage’s chances here with the home crowd having her back. She’s displayed some excellent tennis the past couple of weeks, and although McNally’s style of play does suit the grass, I think the odds have swayed way too much in the American’s favour.
