Greetje Minnen hasn’t had too much success in this Grand Slam in the past, with her best result coming back in 2021 where she exited in the qualifying stages but managed to get a Lucky Loser card which saw her reach the third round. Minnen has been concetrating on the ITF’s this year, and with that has saw her ranking get to the top 100. She’s won a total of two ITF’s, both indoor, and both earlier this year. More recently, she made a solid run at the Kzoerki $115k event where she reached the final, and won the first set 6-2 before losing the next two to Yastremska. Then she flew to New York and competed in teh qualifying stages of the US Open. She got relatively lucky with her draw, having to face Sonmez, Kraus and Scott. She needed three sets to beat Sonmez and Scott.

How cool is it to get Venus Williams back on the tour?! The 43 year-old has already provided a couple of shocks this year. She beat Kudermetova a couple of weeks ago in straight sets, as a 6+ underdog, and took the first set against Qinwen Zheng in the next round of Cincinnati. Impressive tennis and impressive results. Unfortunately Venus Williams had to withdraw from Cleveland with a knee injury. How much of that is US Open preperation we won’t know.
