Denis Shapovalov has had a really disappointing year so far, going 11-12 in 2023. The Canadian has failed to win more than three matches in a row this year, and since the Australian Open has been in horrific form, going 7-10. His grass season hasn’t been much better, he lost his opening match on the grass to Fucsovics in three sets. He managed to beat Harris the week after, but lost to Zverev easily 6-2 6-4 in the next round. He’ll be happy he managed to go through Radu Albot in the opening round of Wimbledon, coming from a set down to in the end win comfortably 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-2.
Gregorie Barrere
Gregoire Barrere has had a bright year, breaking into the top 50 for the first time in his career. The Frenchman won his first title of the year in Quimper, and has mainly played on the tour since then. He even surprised a few, including me, with his form on the clay. He beat players like Medjdevoic, Nakashima, Khchanov and Moutet on the clay! Fast forward a few weeks, and we’re back on grass court season. He opened up his account on the grass with a win against Oscar Otte, beating the German comfortably 6-4 6-3. He managed to push Tsitsipas to a third set tie break in Halle, and then continued his impressive form in Eastbourne where he reached the semi finals beating Ruusuvuori, Jarry and Kecmanovic. He’ll be happy that he won the opening round at Wimbledon, against a recently in-form Harris.
