Casper Ruud survived a slight scare at the opening round of the US Open, after he was a break down in the first set and dropped the second set 6-3 to American Emilio Nava. He managed to take control after that second set, winning the next two 6-4 7-6. Casper Ruud has a lot of points to defend in the next two weeks, after he made the final last year where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz. Ruud hasn’t been in the best of form the past month on the hard courts, losing out to Davidovich Fokina in Toronto and Max Purcell in the opening round of Cincinatti.

Zhizhen Zhang upset JJ Wolf in the opening round of the US Open with some brilliant tennis. He did survive a scare however. He was two sets and a break up against the American, but lost that third set in a tie break, and then lost the next set. Thankfully for Zhang, he won the final set 6-3 and secured the upset against the American. Zhang has been playing some good tennis this year, with some highlights being a quarter-final appearance in Madrid where he beat Rodionov, Shapovalov, Norrie and Fritz to get there, and a semi final appearance in Hamburg last month.
