Thomas Martin Etcheverry
Etcheverry tends to play most of his hard court tennis in Australia, dominating most of his schedule playing clay tournaments – paying 87% of his matches on the clay. 2022 was a successful season for the 23 year-old, managing to secure himself in the top 100 and winning a tricky South American clay court challenger. His record on hard courts isn’t as impressive, but has surprisingly upset the Australian Kubler last year at the Australian Open. But Kubler managed to get his revenge last week, beating him in straight sets 7-6 7-5.
Gregoire Barrere
Gregoire Barrere plays his best tennis on the hard courts, though it must be said that he prefers indoors than the traditional outdoor hard courts – with all of his Challenger titles coming from indoor hards. He showed this again beating Isner from a set down at Adelaide last week, where their match was switched to indoors due to the storm. We have seen the Frenchman be very competitive on outdoor hards too, managing to reach the final in Pozoblanco after beating Humbert in the semi’s and challenging Eubanks at the US Open last year.

Thomas Martin Etcheverry vs Gregoire Barrere Prediction
I have Barrere as a larger favourite than the odds currently suggest, though I get the betting models probably take into consideration that the Frenchman’s impressive results have come from indoor conditions rather than traditional hard courts, the Australian Open courts are know for its quick conditions and that should suit Barrere well. I personally have him closer to the ~1.5 mark.
