Anna Blinkova will be hoping she can win her first-ever main draw at the US Open win, after five failed attempts. Sixth time lucky? The Russian has been in good form since 2022, winning a $250k title in Romania last year, where she had to go from the qualifying stages. Blinkova started off the season well, with a semi-final appearance at Hobart before losing to eventual champion Lauren Davis. She made another good run later on the year, with a final appearance in Strasbourg, losing to Svitolina. Since she’s come to North America on the hard courts, she hasn’t had a great time. Winning just one match against Zhang, and losing four.
Jodie Burrage
Jodie Burrage has shot up the rankings like crazy recently and has reached the top 100, which earned her a place in the main draw of the US Open. She started off her season well, with some good ITF performances. She managed a final appearance at the Canberra ITF before losing out to fellow Brit Katie Boulter. In March, she won the Croissy-Beaubourg ITF, where she had to beat Hatouka, Diatchenko, Minnen, Wickmayer, and Bronzetti to clinch the title. Some really impressive wins there. A couple of months later, she made her first-ever tour-level final in Nottingham, beating the likes of Linette, Frech, and Cornet before losing out to Katie Boulter AGAIN. She’s looked okay on the hard courts recently, beating the likes of Shnaider and Day. But her last two losses have been woeful, losing out to Uchijma and Gleason.

I personally think Blinkova should be far too strong for Burrage. The US Open isn’t rapid conditions, which suits Blinkova a bit more. Burrage’s recent two performances have been awful, and will need to improve on that quickly if she is to trouble Blinkova.
