Romania Team News

Romania is gearing up for its fourth major competition since the beginning of the millennium, and all of these competitions have taken place at the European Championships, with Edward Iordanescu being the latest in a line of managers to lead Romania to this stage.

Iordanescu’s team currently boasts an unbeaten streak of 11 matches in all competitions, not suffering a defeat since a 2-1 loss to Slovenia in a friendly match in November 2022. Although they had four draws in the qualifying group with Switzerland, Israel, Belarus, Kosovo, and Andorra, ending the campaign with four wins in five matches, including a victory on the final day against Switzerland, secured the top spot. The tricolor is now placed in a favorable group with Belgium, Slovakia, and the winner of the playoffs at EURO 2024, but Iordanescu is currently focusing on friendly matches with Northern Ireland and Colombia.

While the same 11 players who started the victory against Switzerland are available, Iordanescu could experiment with Romania’s lineup, although we assume he won’t. Ianis Hagi and George Puscas are obvious choices to return to attacking roles, while defender Bogdan Racovitan and midfielder Adrian Sut hope for their debuts, and experienced Razvan Marin could also be included in the midfield.

Northern Ireland Team News

Although Michael O’Neill has returned as manager, it is fair to say that his first qualifying campaign with Northern Ireland was not impressive. The group, which included Denmark, Slovenia, Finland, Kazakhstan, and San Marino, was probably as good as they could have hoped for, but they only managed to defeat San Marino at home and away before beating Denmark in Belfast on the final day of the competition. Overall, Northern Ireland secured a 2-0 victory against the group winners, but it should be noted that the match was inconsequential for both teams.

Nevertheless, Northern Ireland finished nine points behind fourth place as they lost in seven matches, six of which were goalless defeats. O’Neill now faces the challenge of finding new solutions, stemming from just five victories in 18 matches in all competitions over the two-year period, with the only time they avoided defeat away from home being against Luxembourg, Cyprus, and San Marino.

With Dale Taylor absent for Northern Ireland, Jordan Thompson could be reintroduced into the starting lineup. Liverpool’s Conor Bradley is also expected to return to the right-back position in a team that will likely remain mostly unchanged considering their success against Denmark in November. Aaron Donnelly, Caolan Boyd-Munce, and Jamie Reid are all awaiting their first appearances and hope to get a chance to play later in the match.

Romania vs Northern Ireland Prediction

Since both teams are expected to field their strongest lineups for this match, it could be a tough task for the visitors. However, we believe the visitors might have a few opportunities and could potentially score a goal, but it would be a surprise if Romania didn’t secure a victory in this encounter.
