Israel Team News

Israel went into this clash knowing they needed a win to keep their destiny in their hands heading into the final showdown. That’s after a somewhat surprising setback in Pristina on Sunday, as Alon Hazan’s side looked stuck on a terrible pitch in Kosovo and lost 1-0.

Israel got off to a great start during international matches in June and September, taking 10 points from 12 available. Still, the postponement of their October matches for security reasons makes the challenge extremely difficult as they have to play all their remaining matches this week.

However, they struggled against the stronger sides in the group, as they achieved three victories against Belarus (twice) and Andorra. Hazan will have to change that if Israel is to reach the Euros for the first time and compete in a major tournament since the 1970 World Cup. Another defeat against the second-placed team in this part will not definitively end their hopes of going further, because they would remain five points behind Romania, with whom they will then meet in the ninth round. Israel would then need a favor from Switzerland, who play Romania a few days later, and they hope they can do the job themselves against Andorra.

Israel will be without Roy Reviv after he was sent off in stoppage time against Kosovo on Sunday. Sagiv Yehezkel’s injury in the first half is also a big blow given the form he has been showing for club Antalyaspor recently. Gabi Kanichowsky replaced him in Pristina, and a similar change could be made from the start here. Manor Solomon is out as he recovers from an injury which will likely see the Tottenham Hotspur player miss the rest of 2023, while Liel Abada is also currently out of action.

Switzerland Team News

For the Swiss, the logistics are much simpler, win here and they will be confirmed for the finals in nearby Germany next year. This is despite a very poor qualifying run which sees them enter the final window in second place behind Romania. Defeat here would greatly jeopardize Switzerland’s chances of automatically qualifying. After leading the games against Romania and Belarus at home and away in Kosovo, Switzerland failed to win either of them, dropping points often in disastrous circumstances.

Valentin Mihail gave the Swiss a 2-0 lead against Romania in stoppage time before Vedat Muriqi also grabbed a point for Kosovo in the 94th minute when they met in Pristina. In Switzerland’s only qualifying game in October, they inexplicably narrowly lost at home to Belarus and were only too happy to draw after going 3-1 down in the 89th minute.

Switzerland has missed out on just one major championship in two decades, Euro 2012, but the odds are heavily stacked in their favor with three games to go. It could be all over and over here, but the defeat makes it very likely that it could come down to the final game where they face Romania, and if that happens, manager Murat Yakin will start to feel even more heat from a nation that is not fully confident in his leadership.

Swiss coach Yakin can call on goalkeeper Gregor Kobel after he was sidelined with injury in October, while Eray Comert and Filip Ugrinic are also back in action. Djibril Sow, Jordan Lotomba, and Breel Embolo are among the main absentees due to injury, while Haris Seferovic, Steven Zuber, and Silvan Widmer remain overlooked. Key players Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka, and Manuel Akanji are all in the squad and should feature from the start.

Israel vs Switzerland Prediction

Switzerland is the clear favorite in this match, and Israel’s advantage this time will not even be the home ground, so anything but a victory for the visitors would be a real surprise. Also, a more open match is expected, and our suggestion is to bet on Switzerland’s victory, with the addition that at least two goals will be scored in the entire match.
