Bulgaria Team News

Bulgaria had not qualified for the final tournament of a major competition since 2004, when they played at the European Championship in Portugal. Proof of the Bulgarian football level is that in the UEFA Nations League, they are in the weakest league (League C), on par with selections such as Gibraltar, the Faroe Islands, and Liechtenstein.

Bulgaria started the qualifiers with a 1:0 home defeat against Montenegro. Three days later, they visited one of the group’s favorites, Hungary, and already after the 39th minute of the game, they were in a deficit of three goals, which was also the match’s final result.

With these results, after two games, Bulgaria found themselves in a situation where only victories against Lithuania and Serbia could leave them in the race for the first two places. Already in the first match, they were unsuccessful, playing 1:1 with Lithuania, although they had more players from the 16th minute.

Serbia Team News

Serbia ended the competition at the World Championship in Qatar in the group stage with two losses and one draw. Although the offense functioned well, Serbia’s main problem was the defense.

At the opening of the qualifiers, the Eagles welcomed Lithuania in Belgrade and routinely won 2:0, with goals from Tadic and Vlahovic. Three days later, Serbia played one of the decisive games of this group against Montenegro in Podgorica. After the first half, in which the host was the better rival and created more opportunities, Vlahović brought victory to Serbia (0:2) with two goals at the end of the match.

Serbia was free in the third round due to the odd number of national teams in the group and used the term for a friendly match with Jordan. Although coach Stojković fielded a combined team for this match, a convincing victory for the Eagles was expected. However, to everyone’s surprise, Jordan had a 1:2 advantage ten minutes before the end of the match, but Joveljic prevented a big surprise with two goals.

A big problem for coach Stojkovic’s team will be the absence of Vlahovic, Mitrovic, and Jovic, and we can expect LA Galaxy striker Dejan Joveljic to be in the starting line-up, especially after his performance in the friendly match with Jordan.

Bulgaria vs Serbia H2H

Serbia and Bulgaria played only two duels, both friendly matches. Serbia won both games, in Belgrade in 2008 with 6:1, and in Bulgaria in 2010 with 0:1.

Bulgaria vs Serbia Prediction

With the match in Lithuania, Bulgaria showed that the quality of their national team, composed mainly of players from the domestic league, is very low. Serbia, on the other hand, is one of the group’s favorites. Unlike the match against Jordan, when coach Stojkovic brought a “reserve team” to the field, we expect the strongest squad in this match, which should not have any problems against Bulgaria, even without three standard strikers.
