Murcia basketball players played perfectly at the beginning of last season. In the first nine rounds, they achieved six victories and were among the best-placed teams in the ACB League. Such performances enabled them to participate in the final tournament of the Spanish Cup. There they shocked Valencia, and in the semi-finals, they were defeated by Barcelona.
However, they failed to maintain good form throughout the season. Sito Alonso’s men played worse in the finish last competitive year and failed to make the playoffs. Murcia finished in 10th position with 16 wins and 18 losses.
Murcia’s roster has been changed compared to the previous season. Experienced Brazilian center Augusto Lima, who was one of Murcia’s best players, moved to Unicaja. However, the team management reached an agreement with several proven players such as Artem Pustovyi, Thad McFadden, and Ilmane Diop, and the loudest reinforcement is certainly James Anderson who arrived from Anadolu Efes.
On the other hand, Breogan’s last season was as attractive as Manresa’s. They were newcomers to the league, but they played very well in the first half. They were also participants in the final tournament of the Copa del Rey but did not participate in the playoffs, so the course of their competitive year is identical to Manresa’s.
Breogan’s roster has changed drastically compared to last season. Musa, Bell-Haynes, Mahalbasic, Kalinoski, and Cruz left the club, so we are not sure if the new players can repeat the results from last season.
Last week, Breogran participated in the qualifying tournament for the FIBA Champions League in Belgrade. Already at the start, they were defeated by FMP from Serbia, and they played very disappointedly. Their best player in that match was Nemanja Nenadic, but his qualities are not enough to be the leader in every game of such a strong league.
Since that game, Victor Arteaga and Justus Hollatz have signed contracts with this team, so it remains to be seen whether they will be real reinforcements.
Both teams took advantage of the home court last season and won. Murcia was more convincing 91-72, while Breogan won 94-89.
We firmly believe that quality is currently on Murcia’s side. Breogan did not leave a good impression on us in the FIBA Champions League qualifications, so we expect that this season he will record worse results than last.
Prediction: Murcia -6.5
