After an unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the group stage of the FIBA Champions League, FMP players focused on the start of the new campaign in the ABA League. They registered two starting triumphs, both against Serbian clubs.

First, as hosts, they defeated Mega MIS 90-76, and then as guests, they defeated Borac in Cacak 85-84. Nenad Stefanovic’s team has not yet felt the bitterness of defeat, and they enter the match against Split as absolute favorites.

Split Team News

Unlike FMP, Split had a bad start to the season. Admittedly, in the first two rounds they had strong opponents, so defeats were expected.

First, they visited Podgorica, where they were defeated by Buducnost 59-94. Then they played against Cedevit Olimpija in their hall, and the guests from Ljubljana won easily 77-95. Both of their opponents are candidates for at least the semifinals of the playoffs at the end of the season, so it would be a big surprise if the Split players triumphed in one of these two games.

The primary goal of this Croatian team is to ensure survival in the elite next season as well. Their roster is of modest quality and they only have a few players who can handle stronger opponents. Shannon Shorter, Tyrell Nelson, and Dominik Mavra form a trio whose inspiration will depend on Split’s numerous results this season. Whether their performance will be enough to avoid relegation remains to be seen.
