Fenerbahce Team News
After a fantastic start of the season, Fenerbahce lost three of their last four games in the Euroleague. They were defeated by Olympiacos and Baskonia last week and the main reason for that is large number of injured players.
Scottie Wilbekin missed a couple of games, as did Johnathan Motley. These are the two most important players for Fenerbahce’s offense. In their absence, all the burden fell on Nick Calathes which is a serious problem for Dimitris Itoudis. Tonye Jekiri is also not 100% fit and he will undergo groin surgery after the game against Partizan. Jekiri will be out of action for two months.
Regardless of all the problems, Fenerbahce will try to beat Partizan. They are playing much better defense this season and will have 13,000 fans behind them. Coach Itoudis is always particularly motivated against his teacher and godfather Zeljko Obradovic, so that will be the case now as well.
Partizan Team News
Partizan ended a five-game losing streak in the Euroleague last week when they beat Anadolu Efes in Belgrade. They are now 5-9 and need a few wins to catch the top 8 which is their main goal for this season.
The biggest problem for black and whites is lack of quality individuals on the bench. Partizan has six or seven players who can play at top level, but their defense suffers a lot when there are some young players on the court. For this reason, against Anadolu Efes, coach Obradovic shortened his rotation to six players in second half. Dante Exum and James Nunnally played fantastically in that game, while Kevin Punter shut down Vasilije Micic in third and fourth quarter.
Two things will be extremely important for Partizan in this game. First, it is essential that they defend the opponent’s three-point shot well. Secondly, it is necessary for Mathias Lessort and Zach LeDay to win battle under the hoop against Fenerbahce’s tall players.
H2H
Only four times Fenerbahce and Partizan played against each other so far and H2H is 2-2. Interestingly, the visiting team won every time.
Injuries
Johnathan Motley and Nemanja Bjelica are injured and won’t play for Fenerbahce. Scottie Wilbekin, Kostas Antetokounmpo and Tonye Jekiri are questionable. Balsa Koprivica is out of action at Partizan, while Aleksa Avramovic probably won’t travel to Istanbul either.
Fenerbahce vs. Partizan Prediction
Even if Wilbekin plays in this game, he certainly won’t be at his best because he has been out of practice for two weeks. Partizan gained confidence against Anadolu Efes and definitely believes that they can make a surprise in Istanbul. It will be difficult to do that. However, we are convinced that team from Belgrade can at least cover handicap in this clash.
