Nicolás Jarry

Nicolás Jarry has had an interesting career, where he broke into the top 100 in 2017 after winning three challengers, won his first ATP title in 2019 but then got a suspension after he tested positive for Ligandrol and Stanozolol. He restarted his career in late 2020, and has now returned to the top 150 after winning two challenger titles.

The Peruvian has a huge serve, and has only been broken twice in the two qualifying matches. He’s had an impressive hold record on clay this year, holding 88.1% of the time. In this 1000m+ altitude, his style should suit him perfectly.

Thiago Monteiro

Thiago Monteiro comes off a very impressive Challenger title in Salzburg, beating Rodionov, Shevchenko, Lajovic, Bagnis and Gombos in the process. One of the most difficult Challenger draws we’ve seen in a while! Similarly to Jarry, he also has a very strong serve. He’s also seen a high percentage for his service game, holding 82.5% of the time.

This will be the third time the pair have faced each other, with Jarry leading 2-1 (all on clay). However, Monteiro won the latest bout earlier this year in February 7-6 6-4.

Prediction

This should be a serve-heavy match, with very little breaks. I like many options in this match, the money line for Jarry looks nice, as does the over and the ladder for the first set. I think this will be tight, and I feel like a tie break is likely as well as the match potentially going over three sets. For this reason, I’ll be taking the O22.5 games.
