Gerald Melzer reached a career high of 68 in November 2016, with his best performance in an ATP tournament coming in Munich where he reached the semi finals. Despite not being able to win an ATP title, he has won eight Challenger titles.
The Austrian hasn’t had the best year, holding a 13-11 record (all matches have been on clay apart from one at Wimbledon). He has picked up a bit of form, reaching the final in a Challenger in Bogota and beating Ofner and Moraing in the Tampere Challenger last week. He upset Medjedovic in quali’s, a very promising young player. Melzer will be hoping to continue his run of form this week.

This is the perfect time for Hanfmann to get his form going again. The German’s game suits the high altitude very well, as we saw last week where he beat Garin in the first round at Gstaad and narrowly lost to Jarry 7-6 7-6 (not conceding a single break point). Hanfmann will be hoping to be recreate his impressive run last time out in 2020, where he reached the final losing to Kecmanovic 6-4 6-4.
Hanfmann’s huge game will be perfect for the conditions in Kitzbühel, where the altitude is 700m+!

Hanfmann and Melzer have played only once professionally at Munich, where Hanfmann won 2-1. They also met that same year in the Bundesliga, where Hanfmann was again victorious winning in straight sets 6-2 6-2.
We should be seeing a relative high ace count for Yannick Hanfmann, and the number given to us by Bet365 seems to be a treat. In Gstaad he averaged 6(.25) aces per match, and looking at many of Melzer’s opponent’s stats, they seem to generate a good number of aces against the Austrian.
