After an amazing 2021 where the Ukrainian won her first ever title in Gdynia, and also won two ITF’s, she struggled the year after. She went from a 44-15 record, to a 24-20 record. Her form started to kick in towards the end of the year, where she reacehd the Semi Finals of Bucharest 2 and Quarter-Finals of Parma where she lost to Sakkari in straights. Her last tournament was in France, where she won the high profile ITF event (beating McNally and Golubic!). Zanevska should enjoy these slower conditions, and will be hoping to do better last year when she went out in Round 1 to fellow Ukrainian tennis player Kostyuk.

Lauren Davis tasted her first bit of WTA tour silverware this year in Auckland for the first time since 2017! She put in an impressiev performance, going from qualifyer to winner! Despite this impressive run, the quality of opponents was questionable. However we can’t take away that she still beat every opponent in straight sets. After that win, she struggled in many of her matches, with a record of 4-4. She’ll be hoping she can make that record more of a positive after today’s match.
