Rune has been in horrific form since his impressive run at the French Open where he reached the Quarter Finals (and beat Tsitsipas in the Round of 16). Since then, he went on a 6 game losing stream, and broke his streak against Paire last week – only to lose to JJ Wolf the following round.

He’ll be happy he beat Fognini in the opening round of Montreal, but he will have to play at a much higher level to beat PCB after his impressive Round 1 win.

Carreño Busta has had a relatively average year, with his best run coming in Barcelona where he lost to Alcaraz in straight sets. However he’s back on hard courts, and despite what many think of him (including Kyrgios back in the day!), he has enjoyed some success in these conditions.

Yesterday we saw him take out Berrettini, one of the favourites for the title, in straight sets 6-3 6-2. He put in a sublime performance, and if he puts in a similar level of play against Rune, he should be winning the match with relative ease.

Rune has struggled so much recently, and even if he beat Fognini I don’t think we can read too much into that result. Pablo Carreño Busta will be a completely different opponent for Rune, and I see PCB winning comfortably.
