Borna Ćorić

The Croatian has had a tough couple of years. Ćorić made the decision to have surggery on his right shoulder, and spent an entire year off the ATP tour. The former ATP world No. 12 won his first title since 2018, winning the Parma challenger – beating some respectable opponents (Agamenone, Cobolli, Zeppieri, Lajovic and Ymer).

Despite this, he took nearly three weeks off and came back for a challenger in Romania, losing out to Ionel in straight sets (6.76 odds). In this week’s ATP Hamburg it looked like it would be a similar fate, after looking lost in the first set, losing 6-1, but he came back to win 1-6 7-6(4) 6-3.

Tallon Griekspoor

Tallon Griekspoor has had a nice bounceback after getting knocked out by Alcaraz in Wimbledon last month. He beat Travaglia, Bourgue and Horansky in the Bundesliga, and then went to Amersfoort and won the challenger, where he just dropped one set. You may find the pair of words faimilar, ‘Griekspoor’ and ‘Challenger’. The dutchman won eight Challenger titles last year, a record amount of titles in one year.

Though Griekspoor has shown he is competent on any surface, clay is where he truly excels at. And he showed this with an excellent performance against Rune in Round 1, where he won 7-6(8) 7-5 (only conceding 3 break points!).

This will be the first time the pair will have faced each other.

Prediction

I have Griekspoor as a much heavier favourite here. His game on clay is fantastic, and with his powerful serve in high altitude conditions, this match up should suit the Dutchman. Fatigue will be a worry for Ćorić after going three sets with Djere (where he nearly lost, 1-6 2-4* 15-40 down).
