The Atlanta Falcons are going through a rebuilding and Arthur Smith seems to be doing a decent job. He identified all good things of his team (which there are not many) and they are at 2-3 after five weeks even though they had a very difficult schedule.
The Falcons defense is average. So far they have not limited any opponent below 20 points and that almost certainly won’t be the case this Sunday either. The bigger problem is their offense in which there is almost no talent at all. Tight end Kyle Pitts is probably the only valuable player, but even his season so far has been below average. That’s why Smith insists on run game. Marcus Mariota rarely throws the ball and despite that, he somehow managed to collect four interceptions and three fumbles.
The Falcons will have to play their best game of the season to have a chance against the San Francisco 49ers. Run game is definitely not how they can overcome this opponent, so Mariota will have to throw a lot more, which is never good news for his team.

The San Francisco 49ers have shown two faces so far. They overcame the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers and were unexpectedly defeated by the weaker Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos. Continuity of good form is something that Kyle Shanahan will need to work on.
