Zug vs Zurich Prediction

One of the best European hockey leagues with the highest average of spectators per game, Swiss National League A, has reached its pinnacle. Two evenly-matched teams, Zug and Zurich, will fight for the title in the playoff final with the hosts desperate to preserve themselves on the top. However, Zurich will be more than a worthy opponent so you won´t make a mistake if you decide to watch today´s series opener (link).

As the reigning champions, Zug hold a slight advantage heading into this exciting final. Throughout this season they have been the most consistent team finishing at the top of the table and breezing through both of their playoff series so far. They easily disposed of ninth-placed Lugano and fifth-placed Davos without a single loss so they are undoubtedly the favorites today and in this entire series.

Led by their Swedish trio LanderHanssonKlingberg along with their most efficient scorer Czech international Jan Kovar, they are a force to be reckoned with. Their team is a well-oiled machine with statistically the best powerplay unit in the playoffs but their biggest problem could be playing under pressure. So far they haven´t been faced with elimination in any of their series and went through playoffs without any drama whatsoever, while their opponents Zurich are known to thrive when playing under pressure and facing adversity.

It did not surprise us Zurich were starting to grow and gel as a team as they were progressing through the playoffs. One of the most decorated and historical hockey teams in Switzerland won their last title four years ago. This will be their first-ever finals clash with Zug after beating Lugano in the 2018 playoff final against all odds as the seventh-placed team from the regular season.

This year they were much better during the regular season finishing in third place. Despite their high finish a lot of people didn´t see expect them to fight for the title. Their final before the final was in the quarter-final series against Biel when they were on the edge but somehow survived elimination. After all that drama they had no problems against Fribourg in the semis sweeping the series and letting Zug know they are the real deal heading into this season finale.

Zug vs Zurich Prediction

It´s very tough to predict the winner of this series and this opening game. However, there is one option that caught our attention and that is the Total Under. Both of these teams are very sound defensively and have the best goalkeepers in the league so we expect the opener to remain tight and low-scoring.

Pick: Total Under 5.5 goals
