The Stars entered their round 1 playoff series against the Flames as heavy underdogs, but remarkably hold a 2:1 lead with a chance to put all the pressure on Calgary before returning to Canada. Despite not having an attack that can match Calgary´s efficient offensive production, they managed to hold on by turning the games into scrappy and defensive affairs.

Dallas certainly don´t possess the same offensive firepower as their opponents but their defensive mentality and determination have kept them in it. So far we haven´t seen anything exceptional from them as their overall performances have been pretty average. Their defense has been the key but it seems it´s all about the Flames completely underperforming.

Calgary Flames
The Stars claim they flipped the “playoff switch” but we will have to disagree. Once the Flames finally get going there will be no stopping them. All they need is a big offensive night, and also a big performance from their main stars including Johnny Gaudreau. After things didn´t go according to the script, he has taken most of the blame and criticism. Things went so far that even Calgary´s head coach, Daryl Sutter, called him out for missing a key chance in game 3.
It is close to the boiling point as far as the Flames are concerned. With another loss they would quickly find themselves two games down, but it´s a long series and their deadly offense is bound to come to life sooner or later.

The Flames outshot Dallas in all the games so far and their shots will start going in eventually. Everything has gone Dallas´s way so far but Calgary have been playing well and generating a lot of offense and chances. At the end of the day, the Stars don´t have the same depth across their lines and we doubt they will able to continue winning games with a defensive and physical approach.
