USA vs Czech Republic Prediction

Both the United States and the Czech Republic have all but secured their place in the knockout stage. Their clash will be deciding who finishes third in the group and remains in the fight for the top two positions, which would enable one of these teams to avoid playing against Canada or Switzerland in the quarter-final.

USA

As expected, the US are gelling together as a team as the games are passing by. Their unquestionable NHL quality is coming to surface in a tournament which they started off a bit slower. However, we have to be honest and say we expected them to be a bit rusty at the start.

They did crush Latvia 4:1 in the opener but then had a shocker against Austria barely winning 3:2 in overtime. Still awaiting certain players to join them, they were no match for the mighty hosts Finland falling 4:1 but managed to regroup after that loss. Great Britain stood no chances and went down 3:0 in USA´s first shutout of the tournament, which was a warm-up for the massive clash against Sweden in the previous round.

When it mattered the most, the Americans proved they are still a force to be reckoned with taking down a very powerful Swedish side 3:2 after overtime. It seems it was a matter of motivation against the weaker opponents but we feel the real reason for the US underperforming at the start is the fact they came with an incomplete roster. During the group stage they brought in Jon Merril, Jeremy Swayman and TJ Tynan, all NHL players, and they are still awaiting the arrival of two new NHL players from the Minnesota Wild.

Czech Republic

Czech Republic was going through some very tough times at the start of this tournament after comfortably beating Great Britain in the opening round(5:1). That win was definitely not a sign of things to come as they first lost 5:3 to Sweden and then were stunned by Austria 2:1 after penalties in a huge upset win by the outsiders.

Something had to change urgently because the Czechs even put their quarter-final berth in jeopardy with their poor results. Their team desperately needed an NHL superstar to lead their offense and they got one in David Pastrnak who flew in in the middle of the tournament from the Boston Bruins. That wasn´t all because in their last round´s 4:1 win over Norway they had another NHLer debut. Dangerous forward David Kampf recently joined their team after his Toronto Maple Leafs got eliminated in the NHL playoffs.

It would not be a surprise if some other interesting NHL names came to play for the Czech Republic during the latter stages because their team suffered some injuries so far. However it may be, Czechs are looking like themselves on the ice and have the credentials to fight for a medal.

It is true the Czechs have improved their team after some disappointing results but they can´t be clear favourites against the United States. Underestimating two of the biggest hockey powerhouses, USA and Canada, is never a smart thing to do and that is exactly what the bookmakers and the general public are doing with their odds and staking.

At the moment value is clearly in betting on the US, especially after their massive win against Sweden which should be the turning point of the tournament for them.
