It might be only Monday but 2022 IIHF World Championship has a special game on the schedule as two heavyweights, Finland and USA, go at each other´s throats in another hockey classic.

Finland

Only a glance at the Finnish roster is enough to conclude they don´t want the title to slip away from them at home. After winning their first-ever Olympic gold in Beijing, Finland will now look to dominate once again in their quest for their fourth World Championship gold medal.

Finns have an abundance of talent and quality in their roster led by NHL stars Joel Armia and Mikael Granlund. They lack no support from the European core of their roster so even on a bad day they will be a very tough unit to beat. Those words came to life immediately in the opening two games which they both won, but experienced problems against Latvia and managed to win the game with less than 3 minutes remaining.

After a convincing 5:0 rout of Norway in the opener, Latvia stunned them with an early goal and held on bravely.  When things were not going right, their NHL class prevailed and turned the game around but against the US they will need more than just pure talent and quality.

USA

USA assembled more than a respectable lineup for this tournament in their attempt to defend their bronze medal and perhaps go for more. Captained by experienced NHL defender Seth Jones, their team is a blend of Olympians, top prospects and NHL veterans.

And it was more than enough to get the job done in their opener, which was all but easy against an NHL-bolstered Latvian side. Latvia failed to provide a proper challenge but the US will get more than a challenge today facing the star-studded hosts. Playing against the home team and the reigning Olympic champions, they will be more than tested as this game will show their true worth at the moment.

This unpredictable clash will provide crucial points for one of these teams in their fight for the top of the group. Although it is extremely tough to predict the winner, we see good value in the Total Under option. Both teams have efficient defensive units and strong netminders and clearly showed it so far so we think we will be in for a very tight defensive battle.
