With only three rounds remaining the playoff battle in the Swiss National League A has reached its pinnacle. Ambri-Piotta and Bern are currently fighting for the final playoff position as Bern holds the upper hand with six more points but Ambri have a game in hand. Ambri can still enter the playoffs but besides winning all the points they can, they also need Bern to drop points in their last two games.

It has been all about Ambri during this ending of the regular season as they are the only team that can still enter the playoff zone and change the postseason picture. For that to happen they will have to overthrow Bern who are currently looking lost and without any ideas how to prevent their downfall. Two days ago they lost the most important game, a head-to-head clash with Ambri, who came to their ice and had no mercy for their poor form thrashing them 5:1.

However, that win was not enough for Ambri to surpass Bern in the standings as they are still six points outside the playoff zone. Bern has two tough games remaining while Ambri has three more games and nine more points available. Today they will have to keep their streak alive as they will host fifth-placed Biel who are fighting to finish in the top 6 and enter the quarter-finals directly.

With three wins in a row and home crowd behind them, Ambri once again have a good chance of upsetting one of the teams from the top of table. They did something similar two rounds ago when they hosted one of the main title favourites Fribourg and took them down 2:1 with a goal just minutes before the end. Fribourg were not aided by all the absences they had in their roster as today´s guests Biel could face similar roster problems.

For today´s game they have a whole list of questionable and absent players. Regulars Gaetan Haas, Alexander Yakovenko and Kevin Fey have been sidelined from practice because of illness while Luca Hischier, Damien Brunner and Yannick Rathgeb are all recovering from injuries. Most of these players will not be available for the upcoming two games which will definitely impact their team´s performances.
