2022 Italian Grand Prix Predictions & Race Preview
Track Preview – Monza
Formula 1 comes to Italy this week at one of the most legendary tracks on calendar. Of course, we are talking about Monza. This will be 16th race of the season.
In last two years, the biggest surprises of the season have happened in Monza. Daniel Ricciardo won shockingly last season, while Pierre Gasly celebrated even more sensationally in 2020.
Monza is one of the fastest tracks in Formula 1 with average speed around 265km/h. The maximum speed reaches over 360 km/h. One of the main features of this track are the popular Tifosi who support Ferrari. Circuit length is 5,793 kilometers and scheduled distance is 53 laps. Two DRS zones are provided.
Finding the right aerodynamic setup is always key in Monza. The one who succeeds in this will have advantage, although it is difficult for anyone to threaten Red Bull at this moment.
Max Verstappen is chasing his fifth win in a row at Ferrari’s track
If there was any dilemma, it was definitely removed in Zandvoort. Max Verstappen will become world champion for the second time in the next few weeks and he will defend his title. Theoretically, this can happen already at next race in Singapore.
Verstappen has dominated this year in an even bigger way than Lewis Hamilton did in the previous decade. This was especially the case in previous four races when he destroyed his competitors.
Red Bull has also done a masterful job with the car, which should not be surprising if we know that Adrian Newey is still in their garage. This will be the first time since 2013 that they will win constructors’ title and it will be difficult for everyone to catch up with them in the coming seasons.
Knowing Verstappen, he will be highly motivated to deliver the final blow to Ferrari right on their home track in Italy. A win in Monza will be the icing on the cake for the Dutchman.
As for Ferrari, they are already making big plans for next season, but people who manage the team and make important decisions seem to be a much bigger problem than car performances.
Pick: Charles Leclerc in top 3 in the race – YES
A win in Monza would represent at least some satisfaction for Ferrari fans after the lost battle with Red Bull this season. Charles Leclerc triumphed at Monza three years ago and hopes to repeat it this weekend.
Considering how good Verstappen is, he will surely need some mistake from the Dutchman to have a chance. In any case, Leclerc has the quality to finish inside top 3.
Advices & Tips
Pick: Fernando Alonso in top 6 in the race – NO
Fernando Alonso has had an outstanding season and shows that at age of 41, he is still one of the best drivers in the world. However, this insane series of outstanding results must come to an end, since Alpine quality is not among top three cars on the track.
Pick: Pierre Gasly in top 10 in the race – YES
Pierry Gasly achieved the best result of his career in Monza two years ago. He loves this track and will surely know how to take advantage of it. Alpha Tauri has a lot of problems this season, but the Frenchman can be in top 10 this weekend.
