Winterthur finished first in the Switzerland Second Division last season and ensure promotion. This will be the first time since 1982 that this club will play in the highest tier of Swiss football. As many as three clubs had 65 points in the Second Division last season, but Winterthur had a better goal difference than Schaffhausen and Aarau.

Between 2001 and 2017, Basel won 12 titles in the Swiss League. They were the absolute ruler of football in this country and very often produced excellent results in Europe. They have achieved notable wins in the Champions League including knocking out Manchester United back in 2011. As already mentioned, new head coach is Alexander Frei, the legendary striker of this club. He is the best scorer in Switzerland national team history, and he also showed great talent as a coach in Winterthur last season.
Basel will try in every possible way to win the title this season. In addition, they will play in the the Conference League qualifying, although that competition will be secondary for them this time. From the very beginning, they will want to start well in the domestic championship and a win is expected against Winterthur in first round.
