Stockport County vs Aldershot Town | England National League – Oct. 9, 2021

A new round of fixtures in the National League is in front of us. Eleven games, because there are 23 teams in the league, Wrexham is a team that is free this week.
Some very interesting fixtures are going to play this Saturday and we will analyze the match at Edgeley Park between Stockport County and Aldershot Town.
Stockport County
Stockport County is a team that played in Championship for about 10 years ago, maybe a little more. Since then they suffer four relegations and in a couple of years, they are in National League North, which is the 6th rank of English football. They were the biggest team in that division, but couldn’t gain promotion to the 5th tier for years, until 2019.
In the coronavirus season 2019/20 they finished in 8th place and a very important thing happen during the coronavirus break – Mark Stott brought club. He clear all debts, rent a better training center, bought some very good players and Stockport became one of the favorites for the title last season. But, they finished the season in 3rd place and lost in the playoff semifinal against Hartlepool United.
This season ambition is the same – promotion to League Two. Nothing less.
This summer they brought some very good players for this division: Ben Whitfield, Zeki Fryers, Scott Quigley, Oliver Crankshaw, but the results are not that good. Stockport is in 11th place after 9 games with 4 wins, 14 points, and a negative goal difference of -3. They currently have two successive wins against the big rival Wrexham and Weymouth, and they have a great opportunity for 3rd win in a row this weekend.
Aldershot Town
Aldershot is playing his 9th consecutive season in 5th rank of the English season. Since relegation in 2013 their highest finish was 5th place in 2017/18 after that in the last three seasons they finished 21st, 18th, 15th. They got relegated in 2018/19 but stayed in the league because Gateshead was expelled.
This season is another hard for the Shots fans. They are 21st in the table after 9 games with only two wins and 7 points. Because of poor results, they sacked manager Danny Searle and put ex-Southend manager Mark Molesley in charge. He has a bit of luck in the first game because Aldershot was two-nil down in the 60th minute against Wrexham when the rain has started to fall and the referee decide to call off the game. In the next game against the weakest team in the league Dover Athletic Aldershot win 2-1.
The main goal for Molesley is to keep Aldershot in this league. They lose some very important players during the summer, especially in defense, and the team is very weak. In 10 games (we count that game against Wrexham) they don’t keep a single clean sheet.
A thing worth mention in the Aldershot squad is striker Corie Andrews who is the top scorer with 5 goals.
