Shrewsbury vs. Sheffield Wednesday Prediction, Tips & Odds – Jan. 02, 2022

Some League One action for us on Sunday as Shrewsbury host Sheffield Wednesday at The New Meadow. 3pm Kick off.
Shrewsbury
This will be three games in 8 days for The Shrews which up to now have yielded 4 points and three goals. There is a significant difference between Shrewsbury’s home and away form, they actually rank 9th at home and 23rd away. Looking a little closer they lost their two opening home league games and have only been conquered at home on one occasion since – against Wycombe on the 28th of September. They have since posted an impressive 5 wins and two draws from seven matches scoring 13 goals whilst conceding just 4. Last time out against Accrington produced a 0-0 draw with Shrewsbury closing at 11/10 for the win.

Sheffield Wednesday
Unlike Shrewsbury, Sheffield Wednesday played their first game in nearly 20 days on Thursday suffering a 5-0 defeat at now top of the league Sunderland after several players returned positive covid tests forcing The Owls to close their training ground. A woeful and gutless performance devoid of any hope was compounded by Chey Dunkley (The only recognized CB) being forced off with a hamstring issue. Wednesday ace Josh Windass wasn’t included in the squad and judging from Darren Moore’s words post-game, won’t be a starting option for this one either as he works his way up to scratch.

The Referee
Marc Edwards will officiate this one. In his 6 League One appearances this season he has brandished 21 Yellow cards and one red. The last time he refereed a Sheffield Wednesday match he issued them 4 yellow cards.
Shrewsbury vs. Sheffield Wednesday Prediction, Tips & Odds
We simply cannot look past Sheffield Wednesday cards here given how solid the referee is in the division, especially considering he’s refereed Wednesday before and wasn’t impressed. Shrewsbury has drawn 20+ booking points from their visitors in 4 of their last 5 home games. Sheffield Wednesday was heavily criticized for a lack of passion at Sunderland with many calling for the manager’s head. We are expecting them to fight like dogs here against a very tough Shrewsbury team. Two books seem to agree on the price for Sheff Wed over 1.5 cards, Unibet goes with 1.49, William Hill similar. Skybet is 1.73 and we like that as we agree more with the Unibet price.
Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday Over 1.5 Cards (20+ Booking Points)
