Partizan
Even in their worst dreams, Partizan couldn’t have imagined such a start of the new season. In the Serbian Superliga, they are already seven points behind Red Star and the title is out of reach. In the Europa League, they were eliminated by AEK Larnaca, so this tie against Hamrun is actually a saving grace for complete season of black and whites.
After they were eliminated by AEK Larnaca, Partizan fired head coach Ilija Stolica. Gordan Petric was brought in as new coach, although he hasn’t had a good coaching career so far. Most of the problems for Partizan are coming from midfield where they still haven’t found replacement for Sasa Zdjelar. Former captain left for CSKA Moscow in July. Fousseni Diabate brought extra quality on the wing, but as a team Partizan is not even a pale shadow of last season’s squad.

Hamrun
In the past 40 days, Hamrun made the biggest European result in club’s history. They also have a chance to become the first club in Malta’s history to play in group stage of a European competition. In order to do that, they will have to eliminate Partizan.
This club was an outsider in all three previous qualifying rounds, but they advanced each time. Hamrun eliminated Alashkert, Velez Mostar and Levski and they certainly won’t give up without a big fight against Partizan. In third round of the Conference League qualifying, it looked like they had no chance versus Levski, but they made a huge comeback. After losing 1:0 in Malta, they went to Sofia and won 2:1 by scoring a goal for overtime in the last seconds. In the end, they advanced after a penalty shootout.
Hamrun gained a lot of experience this year and they will certainly have tactics ready for Partizan. Their head coach Branko Nisevic is from Serbia and is well acquainted with all the opponent’s problems.
