Eight years have passed since Fenerbahce won last title, and club management decided to change that. A lot of money has been invested this summer and without a doubt they will be the first favorite to win the Turkish Superliga. Spot in the Champions League group stage would also be a dream come true. Fenerbahce has not been there since 2008.
A lot of new players signed for Fenerbahce this summer and some of the names are Diego Rossi, Joao Pedro, Lincoln, Willian Arao, Bruma, Emre Mor and Joshua King. However, the biggest addition is new head coach Jorge Jesus. He has produced great results with Benfica in the past and everyone expect from him to repeat something similar in Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce was better than Dynamo Kyiv in the first match played in Poland, although it ended 0:0. Defense looked quite stable, while offense is still some way from achieving what Jesus set out for them. Many times in the past Turkish clubs’ investments didn’t pay off, but this project has all the prerequisites to be successful.
Taking all the circumstances, Dynamo Kyiv played a solid game against Fenerbahce last week. Due to the war in Ukraine, they won’t be able to play home matches in their country, which is a big handicap. Dinamo chose Poland as their destination and they had the support of more than 10,000 fans in first leg.
Last season, Dinamo Kyiv ended their European campaign in the Champions League group stage. They were last in group with Bayern, Benfica and Barcelona. This year, it’s not realistic for them to be part of the European elite again, but spot in the Europa League group stage is realistic. If they are eliminated by Fenerbahce, they will play against Slovacko in third round of the Europa League qualifying.
Despite all the problems that befell all Ukrainian clubs, many players didn’t leave Dynamo Kyiv. Legendary head coach Mircea Lucescu, who will celebrate his 77th birthday in a few days, is still on the bench. His huge experience will be of great help in these difficult times for Dynamo Kyiv.
Five times these two clubs played against each other in 21st century and Fenerbahce never achieved a win. Both games in Turkey ended in a draw, just like the one last week in Poland, while Dinamo Kyiv won twice in Ukraine.
Serdar Aziz, Nazim Sangare and Mert Hakan Yandas are injured and won’t play for Fenerbahce. Ibrahim Kargbo Jr, Vladyslav Kulach and Volodymyr Kostevych are unavailable for Dynamo Kyiv.
In first match in Poland last week, Fenerbahce was much more dangerous than Dynamo Kyiv. Now, they will have the support of 40,000 fans behind them, so they should be able to win easily and advance to the next qualifying round.
