Today we decided to dig deep to find you a value football pick. We visited one of our old football leagues that used to be one of our favourite leagues for betting on goal totals – Dutch Eerste Divisie or the second football tier in that country. There are only two games scheduled for today but that was more than enough for us to find a value bet.
Two teams from the opposite side od the table, third-placed Excelsior and bottom-placed Volendam, meet in a very important game for the hosts. Excelsior have already secured promotion play-offs but are still fighting for a direct promotion to the highest Eredivisie tier. On the other hand, Helmond sit at the bottom but have no fear of relegation because of the league rules.
After they were winless for almost two whole months, Excelsior have drastically turned around their form in the last month and a half. Their recent 5-game winning streak has helped them climb up the table rapidly as they are now even threatening the top two teams, Emmen and Volendam, for a direct promotion berth. Their main asset has been their highly efficient offense which has been producing well over two goals per game this season. Defensively they haven´t been so sound conceding over 1.3 goals per game but compared to the rest of the league, they are one of the better defensive teams.

After they recovered from their losing streak, their unstoppable attack led by the league´s top scorer Thijs Dallinga has been producing an impressive average of almost 3.2 goals per game in their last six games. Today they will be greeting Helmond who have one of the worst and most vulnerable defenses in the league, so it could be a long day for the away team.
At this point Helmond are more or less playing for pride and nothing else. Because of the special league rules they can´t suffer relegation so they will be playing relaxed and without any real incentive. In our opinion, that even gives additional value to the bet we are suggesting. They will be facing the best attack in the league knowing they won´t be able to defend themselves for long. However, they will be certainly looking to score a goal or two which they are more than capable of.

Both teams are coping with some absences, especially the home team, but nothing too important for our bet. Excelsior have the best attack in the league and an average of 3.6 goals per game. Even though they´re not as efficient, Helmond also play high-scoring games with an average of 2.8 goals per game.
Excelsior had no problems against today´s guests in the first head-to-head game of the season thrashing them 5:1. Today we should see a very similar game with plenty of goals and another easy win for Excelsior.
