CF Montreal
Montreal is a team that plays in a series of hot and cold in the last couple of weeks. They started the season terrible with five games without a win and after that, they catch a good run with seven games without a defeat. In the last eight games, they have had five defeats and three wins and they have had too many ups and downs this season: they won back-to-back games and after that, they lose back-to-back games.
Currently, they are in the run of two consecutive defeats against LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas and they conceded six goals in those games. This team is fun to watch in MLS this season. Montreal has the fourth-best attack but at the same time the fourth-worst defence in the MLS. The goal difference of 33:35 speaks for itself.
Even without a top scorer Djordje Mihailovic, who scored seven times this season, Romell Quito steps up and adds seven goals and three assists to his name this season. He has five goals and one assist in the last five.
An unbelievable stat for Montreal: they failed to score in only three from 19 games but also they kept only one clean sheet in those 19 games!
Toronto FC
Another disappointing season for Toronto’s fans. Their club, which placed 13th last season, is once again among the poorest in the Eastern Conference. Toronto is currently holding 13th place in the Conference with only five wins and 19 points after 20 games.
They are four games without a win and have won only once in the last six. There are main problems in this team. They have one of the worst defences in the MLS with 38 goals conceded and only San Jose and DC United conceded more. Also, they are without a win away from home in nine games with only three points won and 19 goals conceded (2.11 per game).
Toronto is almost a year without a win away from home – from 25th July 2021. They also failed to keep a single clean sheet this season – the only team who manage to do that.
H2H
They have a long history in the MLS league. In the previous 10 games, Toronto won five games, Montreal four, and only one game was finished with a draw. Five games were finished with over 2.5 goals and six with BTTS.
Team news and prediction
Montreal: Bjorn Johnsen, Tomas Giraldo, and Djordje Mihailovic are injured.
Toronto: Carlos Salcedo leaves the club. Lorenzo Insigne still isn’t a match fit. Noble Okello is injured and Jayden Nelson is suspended.
CF Montreal vs. Toronto FC Prediction
Montreal is a big favourite for a win here in the Canadian Classic. But, current forms of both teams suggest that we must be careful with a full-time bet.
We will go with goals. An interesting stat: 15 of 19 Montreal’s games (79%) and 14 of 20 Toronto’s (70%) are finished with BTTS. Also, these two teams have one of the highest numbers of goals in their games in the MLS league (Montreal – 3.6 goals per game; Toronto – 3.2 goals per game).
Prediction: Over 3.5 goals
Odds: 2.25
