Unics Kazan

After three games in VTB United League Semifinals, Unics is losing 2-1 to Zenit and they need to win at home to earn decisive fifth game that would be played in Saint Petersburg. Due to the war in Ukraine and expelling of Russian clubs from European competitions, many players left Unics including John Brown who was the best defensive player in the Euroleague. With his departure, the defense of Unics significantly weakened. Isaiah Canaan also left the team, so Unics offense was reduced to Lorenzo Brown and Mario Hezonja. Almost all points come after the creation of the two of them. Unics subsequently signed Will Mosley, Jaron Johnson and Zeljko Sakic, but their quality is far weaker than the players they were supposed to replace. For many years Unics have been trying to return to the Euroleague and when they finally succeeded in doing so, things happened that they could not influence and the fate of this club is questionable. Head coach Velimir Perasovic has done a great job this season and it can very easily happen that he finds a new job in the Euroleague soon. For sure, none of the foreign players will stay at the club after the end of the season.

Surprisingly, all American players stayed at Zenit after the club was expelled from the Euroleague even though they all had the option to leave the club. The only ones to leave were Mindaugas Kuzminskas and Mariusz Ponitka, so Zenit still kept all the important players like Jordan Loyd, Billy Baron, Alex Poythress and Jordan Mickey. That is why they may be the first favorites to win the VTB United League, although their opponent in the final would be CSKA Moscow. Just as is the case with Unics, immediately after the end of the season, all American players will almost certainly leave the club, just like coach Xavi Pascual, who reportedly has an agreed job at Maccabi Tel Aviv. Regardless of that, Zenit will try to end this season by winning the VTB United League, and they need only one win against Unics to reach the finals. In the game number three, which they won in Kazan, they shot very poorly from a distance, so they still have a lot of room for improvement and an even better game than they played two days ago.

Unics and Zenit played a total of seven times against each other this season and H2H is 6-1 for Zenit. It is currently 2-1 for Zenit in this series, and the first team to reach three victories will advance to the VTB United League finals.

Tonye Jekiri and Marco Spissu did not play for Unics in this series and they probably won’t be part of the team in game number four. Zenit have all players available for this game.

UNICS Kazan vs. Zenit Prediction

Simply put, Zenit is a better team than Unics. The handicap of six points on a better team is really a lot and there is a realistic chance that Zenit will win and finish this series in Kazan. If that is not the case, they will probably lose by less than six points.
