South East Melbourne Phoenix vs. New Zealand Breakers Prediction, Tips & Odds – Dec. 10, 2021

This week´s round of Aussie NBL brings us a replay of last week´s season opener between the South East Melbourne Phoenix and New Zealand Breakers. Arena and the teams will be the same, but this time the Breakers have a much better chance after shaking off their covid issues. Their coach Dan Shamir is returning along with their starting center Yanni Wetzell whose size and presence was dearly missed in last week´s game.

South East Melbourne Phoenix
To say the Breakers played badly in that first game would be an understatement. Clearly affected by their covid isolation and missing several key players they only looked competitive during the opening quarter. Then the Phoenix shifted into another gear and the game quickly turned into a blowout with the Breakers losing by more than 20 points at halftime.

New Zealand Breakers
With their star center and new addition Yanni Wetzell out, the Breakers looked seriously outsized in that game. Phoenix were running riot in the paint but that will not be the case this Friday with Wetzell recovering from covid. With him on the floor and with their coach back on the bench we are expecting a completely different game.
With a full roster Breakers were playing at a very high level during the preseason and managed to beat this same Phoenix team(92:90). Since last Saturday they had a couple of full training sessions after complete lockdown so with more or less a complete roster we expect them to be much better this week. In comparison to the hosts they possibly even have a better roster but they had no one who could guard Phoenix´s center Qi Zhou who was scoring with ease.

South East Melbourne Phoenix vs. New Zealand Breakers Prediction
Convincing 89:65 defeat was not surprising due to the mismatch in the paint but today it would not surprise us if the Breakers came away with the win. They are desperate to make up for that poor initial display so with much more size this time they should be able to cover the spread and make the game much more interesting.
Prediction: Point Spread – New Zealand Breakers +9.5
