Perth Wildcats
The vice-champions Perth Wildcats welcome the Illawarra Hawks this Friday in the Aussie NBL looking to secure a finals ticket. It has been an up and down season for Perth while the Hawks have been much more consistent and have built some great form just before the start of the playoffs.
A loss today would put the Wildcats in a very uncomfortable position facing the Melbourne Phoenix in the final round. With the Tasmania JackJumpers on their heels, Perth would secure a finals berth with a win today and avoid all the drama of facing playoff elimination in the closing game of the season.
Their playoff hopes took a big and unexpected hit recently with one of their stars Victor Law suffering a season-ending ankle injury. It seems the same pattern from last season is repeating itself for the Wildcats after they lost their best player Bryce Cotton at the very of the regular season. Nevertheless, they still possess a quality rotation and should be able to make the playoffs but winning the title once again seems like an impossible task.
Vic Law has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. 💔 We wish Vic all the best on his road to recovery.

Illawarra Hawks
The Illawarra Hawks are hot at the moment despite their loss in the last round to their rivals Sydney after overtime. They still haven´t managed to take down the Wildcats this season losing both head-to-head games but in this round they have a perfect opportunity to do so.
They hold a slender advantage over Perth in the standings and will look to cement themselves in third place. Going to Perth´s RAC Arena has always been a nightmare for all of the teams in recent years but this season the Wildcats have proven extremely vulnerable at home. They already lost 5 out of 12 home games so far so the Hawks have every right to be optimistic heading into this game. In addition, this game will also be a special occasion for Illawarra´s head coach Brian Goorjian who will be managing his 800th NBL game.
Illawarra Hawks’ Brian Goorjian, who will coach his 800th @NBL game on Friday against the @PerthWildcats, speaks about the importance of our upcoming road trip during this week’s media call.

Perth Wildcats vs. Illawarra Hawks Prediction
Even though the Wildcats recovered with a routine win against Cairns in the last round, they have faltered mightly this season; especially at home where they have been throwing away games left and right. The Hawks look well poised for the playoffs and present matchup problems at every position so we think they will leave Perth victorious.
