The season for Partizan is one step away from being finished. Last summer, when Zeljko Obradovic returned to the club, almost everyone expected that black and whites will be the best club in the ABA league after nine years, but that did not happen. Partizan was shockingly eliminated in the Eurocup round of 16 by Bursaspor, and they will not win the title in the ABA league either unless they work a miracle and beat Red Star three times in the next three games. Partizan ambition was to return to the Euroleague next season, but now that can only happen if they get a wildcard, which is unlikely. Partizan has invested a lot of money to sign players like Kevin Punter, Zach LeDay, Rodions Kurucs, Aleksa Avramovic, and Mathias Lessort, but it seems that these investments will not pay off. This team has the biggest problems during the season with game organization in offense because apart from youngster Yam Madar, they don’t have a point guard on the roster. This was reflected in results that were below expectations. Also, the defense is not at the level needed to win trophies.

Red Star

Unlike some previous seasons, Red Star did not sign expensive foreigners this time. The biggest reinforcement was the arrival of Nikola Kalinic, who in previous years was one of the best forward in the Euroleague. He fully justified that by being ABA League MVP in the regular season. An excellent job was done by bringing in Nikola Ivanovic and Luka Mitrovic from Buducnost. Foreign players Nate Wolters, Austin Hollins, and Aaron White were not the main scorers. They had roles given to them by head coach Dejan Radonjic and they did it in the best possible way. In the first mandate of coach Radonjic on the Red Star bench, the team trademark was an excellent defense, and that was the case this time as well. In the Euroleague, this team provided some impressive defensive games, however, they failed to qualify for the quarterfinals. Like in every previous year, the most important thing for Red Star is to win the ABA league and they were fully focused on that throughout the regular season. Now, only one win separates them from defending the title in this competition.

In total, these clubs have played against each other five times this season. Red Star leads 4-1 in H2H. In the ABA league regular season, it was 1-1, while currently is 2-0 for Red Star in this final series, which is played at the best of 5. Partizan and Red Star also played in the Serbian Cup finals when the red and whites won dominantly 85:68.

Both coaches have all players available for this game, but Nemanja Dangubic and Rodions Kurucs didn’t play for Partizan in last two months. That is coach Obradovic decision and they won’t be part of the team in this game either.

Partizan vs. Red Star Prediction

Support from the stands is a very important thing in this series and it is not easy for away players to concentrate only on the game. Now Partizan will be the host and they will certainly do everything they can to avoid being swept up in this series.
