The second game on the schedule this Saturday in the New Zealand NBL is a very interesting clash between the leaders, Otago Nuggets, and the most pleasant surprise of the season, the Nelson Giants. The Giants are a team on a mission and continued their good form by beating the Southland Sharks away from home this Thursday. They will be hoping for another upset win but they still haven´t beaten a title favourite this season and that will hardly change against the mighty Nuggets.

Otago Nuggets
The Nuggets have one of the most powerful and versatile starting fives this league has ever seen. Led by Aussie NBL imports Tahjere McCall and Todd Withers they were undefeated until they played the Taranaki Airs last Sunday. It was a tough back-to-back game against the revamped Taranaki offense as the Nuggets failed to hold on with their short rotation.
Their starting five looks amazing but they lack bench support which is their main weakness. Today´s game is their sole matchup of the week so they won´t be feeling any fatigue but the Giants will after their comeback win over the Sharks. Against a dangerous team like the Nuggets that could be the main difference.
Nelson Giants
The Giants achieved one of their biggest wins of the season taking down the Southland Sharks couple of days ago(96:90). After losing for most of the game and facing an 8-point deficit with around three minutes left, they made three straight threes and completely turned the game around. In the end it was a win to savour which brought them only two points behind the Nuggets at the top of standings.
It seems the Giants have their own plans this season. No one thought they would be doing this good but it all stems from the league´s leading scorer Trey Mourning, who received major support from their new American import Sam Thompson in their win over the Sharks. The American duo combined for a total of 44 points and 17 rebounds letting everyone know the Giants will be competing for the title this season.

Otago Nuggets vs Nelson Giants Prediction
No one really knows how strong the Giants really are at the moment but we doubt they will be able to pull off another upset. They are facing a well-rested Nuggets side with plenty of talent and should feel the wear and tear of their road trip. However, we will avoid the spread betting and back the Total Under option. Both of these teams have been conceding well below 80 points per game and have the best defenses statistically so the 165.5 total seems a bit too high.
