New Zealand vs. Syria Prediction, Tips & Odds – Jul. 19, 2022 12:30 CET

Opening game on the FIBA Asia Cup schedule this Tuesday is a David vs Goliath clash as the Tall Blacks take on a shorthanded Syrian team that entered the knockout stage at the last second after a surprising win over Kazakhstan. New Zealand will enter the match as heavy favourites and should be able to put the scoreline out of reach early because the Syrian team is at least two classes below them.

New Zealand Team News
Against the Philippines and India, New Zealand’s blend of youth and experience did the job, but when the big test came against Lebanon, their team faltered. Just like Japan, we don´t consider them to be title contenders but they have enough at their disposal to fight for a medal.
It was a very stable and all-around performance by the Tall Blacks against the Philippines after they suffered an unexpectedly heavy loss to Lebanon. With that win they recovered nicely and probably got the most ideal opponent in this additional knockout round.
Besides India, we think Syria is the weakest team in the tournament so New Zealand shouldn´t have any problems against them and should notch a convincing win that will boost their morale before the big quarter-final clash against Korea.

Syria Team News
It seems there was some turmoil within the Syrian team prior to this tournament as their best player, naturalized American Amir Hinton, didn´t come to Indonesia despite being called up by the coach. The excuse their federation gave was that he missed his flight but they will have to come up with something more convincing or tell the fans and the public the real truth.
Besides Hinton, Syria are also without their starting center with European experience, Kemal Canbolat, which even further weakens them. Despite all of these absences, they still advanced from their group after demolishing Kazakhstan in the final round(77:67), but we think that´s about as much as they can do in this tournament.
With their strongest roster, only the sky would be the limit for the Syrians. They have to be more than content with their accomplishment as they realistically don´t stand a chance against New Zealand and should lose easily by a very large margin.

New Zealand vs. Syria Prediction
We just don´t see how would this undermanned Syrian team threaten New Zealand without its two best players. Even if Syria had a full roster, their chances would still be second to none so we are backing the Tall Blacks to cover the spread and enter the quarter-final in dominant fashion.
