The Nelson Giants continued with their takeover of the league and currently find themselves at the top after their last two away wins against the Hawks and the Tuatara. It´s quite amazing what they´ve achieved this season but it seems they are not stopping and will try to go for the ultimate prize.

Their American trio of Thompson–Mourning–West is doing most of the damage but the Giants wouldn´t be where they are at the moment if it wasn´t for their captain Sam Dempster and his red-hot shooting. Two rounds ago in their win over Auckland he caught fire knocking down nine threes and had a game for the ages carrying his team on his shoulders with a total of 29 points.

The absence of their starting centre Tai Wynyard didn´t affect the Airs last Saturday against the Manawatu Jets. They came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders and stormed past the Jets scoring a record-breaking 131 points.

With that win Taranaki is still hovering around the final playoff position but if they want to make the postseason they will have to improve their performances away from home. Their team feels much more comfortable playing in front of their fans so getting a crucial win against the league leaders away from home will be a very demanding task.

For this round the Airs should have their star centre back from the 3×3 World Cup which will be very important against a strong rebounding team like the Giants. They still haven´t played against them this season and will enter the game as underdogs but they certainly have the potential to take them to the edge and make the game interesting.
