Melbourne United Team News
Playing without their captain and co-captain, United were torched by the Hawks in their Blitz opener. Illawarra´s lead ballooned to 21 points at the start of the final quarter, but United fought until the end and managed to lose with a respectable margin of 13 points.
Melbourne will have their captain and sharpshooter Chris Goulding back for this game, but we are under the impression they would have still lost to Illawarra even if they had a full roster.
As we stated before, United still have a formidable lineup with top imports that has the potential to make the playoffs. However, in the last two years they were impacted by two key departures as Jock Landale and Matthew Dellavedova both went to the NBA.
Perth Wildcats Team News
After last season´s failure, it seems something special is brewing in Perth again. In their opening two games, the Wildcats smashed both the Taipans and the Phoenix, announcing themselves as a force to be reckoned with this season.
Bryce Cotton is back to his old self after dropping 36 points against Cairns, but the Wildcats have plenty of other weapons. In the absence of Mitch Norton, Kyle Zunic embraced his increased role with 15 points vs the Phoenix, while the new star reinforcement Corey Webster also had a solid game with 16 points. All of this new firepower means Perth will be a very tough team to beat this season.
Melbourne United vs. Perth Wildcats Prediction
Melbourne will have more depth for this clash but the Wildcats are way above them at the moment. The spread seems a bit too high for a preseason game so we decided to back the Total Over.
In their first two Blitz games Perth averaged almost 93 ppg. They possess numerous offensive weapons and should be able to dominate United, who will have their best shooter and captain back. Melbourne are not what they used to be, but they can definitely score more than they did against Illawarra.
