Lithuanian LKL basketball league always has a busy schedule at the start of the new week and this one is no different. In a top of the table clash third-placed, Lietkabelis will host second-placed Lietuvos Rytas this Monday. Guests are two wins ahead of the hosts fighting for the top position with the champions Zalgiris and have the opportunity to more or less secure the second place with a win today.

In their win over Siauliai in the last round, Rytas were faced with the toughest game of the season so far. Their roster was impacted by injuries and absences as they couldn´t count on their stars Ivan Buva and Jarvis Williams. They still had more than enough to get past Siauliai(89:77) but Lietkabelis will be a much more demanding task.

Lietuvos Rytas have always remained in the shadow of their biggest rivals Zalgiris and it seems they will have to wait for one more year to win the title they so desperately want. During the domestic season, they have been consistent and only lost three games so far which were all against Lietkabelis and Zalgiris. Those are the only teams that can beat them in the league because the rest of the competition has always been miles behind the biggest three clubs.

The home team is enjoying a very solid season but will look to make it even better as they have their eyes set on the start of the Eurocup playoffs in ten days. In the meantime, they have two important domestic games including this one today so they will be able to put their entire focus on the league. It has been a very strenuous season for them playing a game every couple of days so their light schedule prior to the Eurocup fixture came as a blessing in disguise.
