Since 2011, Georgia has participated in every Eurobasket, and in September they will be one of four hosts of this tournament. They have never participated in the World Cup and these qualifiers are probably their best chance. In the next group, they will compete against Italy, Iceland and Netherlands, and they can defeat each of these teams. The problem is that they lost by 13 points to Ukraine a few days ago, so now they have a weaker H2H against them. Georgia is definitely better than Ukraine, Netherlands and Iceland, and a possible win against Spain would drastically increase their chances. Georgia best players Toko Shengelia, Giorgi Shermadini and Thad McFadden will play in this match. Goga Bitadze is also here, but his fitness level is not the best, so it remains to be seen if head coach Ilias Zouros will use him. When Georgia plays at home, the atmosphere is always fiery and that is definitely an advantage for them. Experience is also on their side, so they certainly hope to win this game, regardless of the fact that they are outsiders on paper.

Spain has done a perfect job in qualifiers so far. They won all four games by double digits and took a huge step towards qualifying for the World Cup. Head coach Sergio Scariolo doesn’t have the option to use Spain’s best players. Because of that, players who almost certainly won’t play for Spain at Eurobasket or World Cup get a chance to play for the national team. Quino Colom and Dani Diez are the only players with Euroleague experience. The rest of the squad is mainly made up of players from Valencia, Joventut and Unicaja. Some of them are Xabi Lopez-Arostegui, Joel Parra, Dario Brizuela, Ferran Bassas and Jaime Pradilla. Looking at the best players in both teams, the best three are coming from Georgia (Bitadze, Shermadini, and Shengelia), but Spain can use all 12 players at some point in the game. Georgia doesn’t have quality on the bench, and that’s certainly the way for Spain to beat them. Also, the start of the match will be very important, because if visitors don’t get a double-digit advantage quickly, they could have difficulties winning at all.

These two teams played against each other in November last year in the same qualifiers. Then, Spain convincingly won 89:61. In that match, Georgia didn’t have Shengelia and Bitadze on the roster.

For this game, Spain doesn’t have a single player on the roster who played in the Euroleague or NBA last season, while all players are available for Georgia.

Georgia vs. Spain Prediction

Georgia has McFadden, Bitadze, Shengelia and Shermadini in their roster. With them in the starting five, they can certainly make an advantage against Spain. They may not win, but they should be able to cover 8.5 point handicap.
