Many basketball experts predicted that FMP players would fight for survival in the ABA league last season. But the Panthers denied them all and made it to the playoffs of this regional competition.
The greatest credit for the good results goes to the ambitious and very talented coach Nenad Stefanovic. He carefully selected a good roster and created fantastic chemistry within the team.
They enter the new season with a changed squad, as two of the best players left the club. Playmaker Bryce Jones moved to Limoges, while power forward Danilo Tasic left the club. Garrett Nevels and Marko Radonjic also departed from FMP.
FMP brought four international players for the new season. Trent Frazier, Beau Beech, Paulius Valinskas, and Charles Jenkins arrived, and of the local players, Nikola Jankovic, the former Partizan power forward, is the loudest reinforcement.
Rio Breogan returned to the Spanish elite last season and became an absolute hit in the first part of the ACB league. They played very well, their individual and team performances were excellent and they secured a place in the final tournament of the Copa del Rey. There they were defeated by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, but they put up a strong resistance against Los Blancos.
Dzanan Musa was by far Rio Breogan’s best individual last season. He was named MVP of the championship, and this summer he moved to Real Madrid. The team’s second-best player, Trae Bell-Haynes, left Vigo and signed for Buducnost from Podgorica, a participant in the ABA League and the Eurocup.
The current roster of Rio Breogan has as many as three players from Serbia – Marko Lukovic, Nemanja Nenadic, and Stefan Momirov will wear the jersey of this club in the next season. It is interesting that the first two are former FMP players.
Coach Veljko Mrsic is also from the Balkans, from Croatia, and his key player should be Scott Bamforth. This American shooter played very well last season in Le Mans.
These two teams have never met before.
