Valencia Team News
In the Euroleague last five rounds, Valencia experienced four defeats. Two of them were very convincing. Maccabi overcame them in Tel Aviv last week 84:68, while Virtus demolished them in Bologna 89:59 four weeks ago. They achieved their only win in Belgrade against Partizan after overtime.
Chris Jones injury slowed down Valencia’s offense a lot, but he is back and will play against Panathinaikos. With him and without him, this team looks completely different. Bojan Dubljevic doesnβt play as dominantly as in some previous years and he is now mostly a threat in shooting from distance. James Webb had a couple of great games and Xabi Lopez-Arostegui has been playing well lately.
Some players like Jones and Prepelic are back in the team, so Valencia are in a better situation than two weeks ago. They lost four of six games in the EuroLeague this season on their home floor and they certainly want to make a better impression in front of their fans.
Panathinaikos Team News
After a debacle in Istanbul four weeks ago, there seemed to be no way out for head coach Dejan Radonjic and Panathinaikos. However, win against Virtus after overtime hinted at better days. After that, they defeated Asvel, Zalgiris and Milano, so they are in a series of four consecutive wins.
Panathinaikos did all this without Marius Grigionis who was injured for a while. Nate Wolters didn’t play against Milano either, but Dwayne Bacon and Derrick Williams are in fantastic form. Those two are the most responsible for the excellent results in the last four rounds. Panathinaikos defense is starting to look like what coach Radonjic envisioned and as time goes on they will be a better and better team.
In this visit to Valencia, Panathinaikos goal will be to slow down the opponent’s offense. If they succeed in that intention, they will have a good chance to achieve fifth win in a row. In a game on large number of points, their chances are drastically less.
H2H
This will be ninth game between Valencia and Panathinaikos in the Euroleague. H2H is 4-4. In the last six meetings, home team won every time.
Injuries
Martin Hermannsson and Sam Van Rossom are injured and wonβt play for Valencia. Marius Grigonis is out of action at Panathinaikos.
Valencia vs. Panathinaikos Prediction
Panathinaikos are in great form, but they won against Virtus and Milan only after overtime. It’s time for Valencia to achieve a dominant win in the Euroleague on their home floor and we expect that to happen in this clash. Simply, they have many more points in their hands and they will impose their rhythm in this game.
