In the last couple of years, the Cairns Taipans were going through a rocky transition period from their longterm head coach Aaron Fearne who decided to step down, so it doesn´t come as a surprise they haven´t made the postseason for two straight years.
Last year, new head coach Adam Forde had a baptism by fire, which didn´t end well. Immediately when his team started losing games and showing weaknesses, his hot-tempered character got the better of him. The club was looking very frail and unstable, but the board decided to keep him and it turned out to be probably one of the best decisions they had made in the last five years or so.
After finishing in third place and narrowly missing out on a top 2 finish due to score difference, he won the NBL23 Coach of the Year award. It was fully deserved as his team rose from the ashes, but we somehow have a feeling that the Taipans are not done yet.

The youngest NBL franchise achieved a miraculous result in their inaugural season. Against all odds and predictions, they made it all the way to playoff finals, but the Sydney Kings were simply too powerful.
With the new season looming, the majority of pundits wrote off the JackJumpers claiming that they are a one-trick pony, while some even predicted they would suffer a disaster. The JackJumpers will not be able to count on their floor general Josh Magette, but the hosts have a much bigger hole in their lineup as their star man Keanu Pinder has been sidelined once again.
After returning from injury, Pinder only managed to play in two games before suffering an orbital fracture. It will keep him out of action until the end of the upcoming FIBA break, which means he will not be suiting up this Thursday.
His absence greatly diminishes the offensive firepower of the Taipans, so we opted to back the Total Under.
